My name is Lisa and I’m the new school nurse for Shepherds Down School. Working alongside me is Beverley and together we will be caring for your children whilst they’re in school. We will be in school 5 days a week for the duraton of the school day. We are employed by Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust who run Winchester and Basingstoke hospitals so have good links with the community nursing team and consultants there.
I previously worked in Children’s A&E at Southampton Hospital and I was the link nurse for children with complex needs – physical and behavioural – aiming to make the healthcare environment more accessible and less scary for these children. Beverley has many years of experience as a child minder and has been working as a Health Care Support Worker at Basingstoke Hospital. She is also due to complete her degree as a nursing associate soon.
In this new role we hope to be an avocate for you children to ensure they are enjoying happy, healthy lives and staying out of hospital as much as possible. Our role includes managing medications, dealing with emergencies, educating and supporting school staff, day to day care of your childen such as weighing when necessary and liasing between education and health among other things. We also work closely with the Community Children’s Nursing Team in both Winchester and Basingstoke Hospital.
As we work for a different NHS trust than the previous school nursing team, there will be some changes in paperwork and processes and I’d ask that you be patient with us whilst these changes are made. We are aiming to avoid replicating information that you have already provided regarding your child where possible.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions. We would be happy to meet you or talk to you over the phone about your child. We are contactable via the school’s phone number (01962 713445) and will always aim to call back if we are not available at the time.
We look forward to working with you and your children!
